"Bat Lady" Research Team In Wuhan 'Find' COVID-Like Virus That Can Infect Humans

Authored by Eva Fu via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

Chinese researchers, led by a virologist whose work had fueled concerns about a possible COVID-19 lab leak, have discovered a new bat coronavirus that is similar to the one that causes COVID-19, and that is capable of infecting humans.

The virus, called HKU5-CoV-2, can enter human cells through the ACE2 receptor, the same gateway for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that sparked a global pandemic five years ago, according to a study recently published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Cell.

The lead researcher is Shi Zhengli, who, for years, led work on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a lab that has been under scrutiny amid ongoing questions about the origins of COVID-19.

The researchers collected nearly 1,000 anal swabs from pipistrellus bats across five Chinese provinces and took them to the state-owned Wuhan research institute.

The virus belongs to a distinct lineage of coronaviruses that also include the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome virus. Lab experiments indicate this virus strain may infect a wide range of mammals. The HKU5-CoV-2 has the potential to jump from one species to another, researchers said, noting the recent detection of viral sequences closely related to HKU5-CoV in farmed minks.

The virus doesn’t enter human cells as readily as the SARS-CoV-2 virus, suggesting the risk of its “emergence in human populations should not be exaggerated,” the paper states. The researchers also identified antibodies and antiviral drugs that target the virus.

Findings about the virus raised concerns from Richard Ebright, a molecular biologist and laboratory director at Rutgers University’s Waksman Institute of Microbiology, who has been critical of the Wuhan Institute’s virus experiments.

In nature, this virus poses minimal threat to humans,” he told The Epoch Times on Feb. 25.

“However, [with] laboratory enhancement of transmissibility or pathogenicity, this virus could create a highly extremely threatening new bioweapons agent and pandemic pathogen.”

China is currently experiencing a surge of human metapneumovirus cases while the regime continues to resist international probes of the origin of COVID-19.

In January, the CIA became the third U.S. executive agency to back the theory that the SARS-CoV-2 virus might have come from a Chinese lab.

Ebright expressed concern that the newly discovered virus is being reported and researched by Shi, given her past line of research that he described as “reckless.”

Pandemic research nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance, which has used federal grants to support bat coronavirus research at the Wuhan lab, received an official funding ban in January from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The House Oversight Committee’s Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic said its investigation found the U.S. group had been facilitating lab experiments in Wuhan that enhance coronavirus features, including through gain of function research.

The Chinese foreign ministry, in a Feb. 12 press conference, denied that the Wuhan Institute of Virology has engaged in gain of function studies of coronavirus.

Shi left her former facility and joined Guangzhou National Laboratory as a researcher in May 2024. The lab was set up in 2021 to focus on significant respiratory diseases and their prevention, according to its website.

The virologist has posted hiring notices for postdoctoral researchers to join her team to study emerging infectious diseases, molecular epidemiology, cross-species viral transmission, and molecular mechanisms of pneumonia from respiratory viral infections.

A dozen researchers from the Wuhan Institute, along with six from her current lab, were coauthors of the February research paper.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it was aware of the Cell study but “there is no reason to believe it currently poses a concern to public health.”

The publication referenced demonstrates that the bat virus can use a human protein to enter cells in the laboratory, but they have not detected infections in humans,” Paul Prince, a spokesperson for the center, told The Epoch Times.

He added that the agency will “continue to monitor viral disease activity and provide important updates to the public.”

The Epoch Times reached out to Shi for comment but did not receive a response by publication time.

'The Dog Ate My Epstein Files...'

Authored by James Howard Kunstler,

"It may be time the FBI's New York field office gets paid a visit in the style it's very well accustomed to doling out."

- Mike Benz

Turns out new Attorney General Pam Bondi was a little off the mark earlier this week when she said the Jeffrey Epstein files were sitting on her desk. Actually, it was a six-hundred-pound tar-smeared hairball with a gift tag that read: “To Pamela Jo from her Friends in Blobville, good luck untangling this!” Well, she did tell Fox News host Jesse Waters that the thing sitting on her desk was “disgusting.”

As promised, those Epstein files were released on Thursday — a measly two-hundred pages — to much chagrin and embarrassment for all, since the material turned out to be the same old lists and flight logs that every blogger and his uncle has already put out on the Web for years — say, what . . .?

But then the plot thickened later in the day when AG Bondi said a whistleblower informed her that the New York office of the FBI and their counterparts in the Southern District of NY (Manhattan) DOJ offices were hiding “thousands and thousands” of pages evidence and other stuff (videos? photos?) they had been sitting on for years.

AG Bondi quickly fired off a letter to brand-new FBI Director Kash Patel demanding that the New York FBI office deliver all that stuff to Washington by eight o’clock in the morning today (Friday). If you were Mr. Patel, rather than waiting until morning, wouldn’t you just take a twilight ride up the Jersey Turnpike from Blobville to the Big Apple with an FBI swat team and bust into both the FBI and DOJ offices there. . . and maybe frog-march a few federal employees onto the street like so many grannies caught praying in front of an abortion mill?

Of course, I am writing this a few hours before the Friday morning deadline. So, for now there are only the ancillary considerations in this fast-developing denouement to the longest and slowest-running case of trans-national fuckery in world history. Some little details do stick in one’s craw. For example, Maurene (spelled that way) Comey, daughter of fired FBI director James Comey has been a lead US attorney out of the SDNY in the case against Ghislaine Maxwell and the more recent case against Sean (“Diddy”) Combs — both cases revolving around grand-scale sexual depravity among world-class celebrities. Note, too, that the SDNY was the origin point of more recent janky cases brought against Mr. Trump in the 2024 runup to the election.

And, as independent investigator Mike Benz points out, Bill Barr was USAG in 2019 when Jeffrey Epstein was finally busted, stuffed into the Manhattan federal lockup, and promptly (shall we say, conveniently) turned up dead a few days later (putting aside the known irregularities involving the disposal of his body and the pathology reports about the cause-of-death). Did you notice that no one was ever disciplined for that? Not the two guards on the floor that night who claimed they fell asleep. Not the warden of the jail who failed to check whether the security cameras were working (they weren’t) on his most important prisoner’s cell?

Nor did Bill Barr ever answer for that, or for some other capers — such as sitting on Hunter Biden’s laptop in the fall of 2019 when Adam Schiff’s House Intelligence Committee held preliminary hearings to consider impeaching President Donald Trump over his inquiring phone call to V. Zelenskyy in Ukraine. The laptop, you surely know, was stuffed with deal memos and emails about the Biden family’s ex-officio financial shenanigans in Ukraine that surely would have amounted to exculpatory evidence and was withheld from Mr. Trump’s lawyers through the entire psychodrama of the impeachment and trial in the Senate.

Then there is the peculiar history of Bill Barr’s dad, Donald Barr, present at the founding of the CIA (as an OSS officer in WWII), who groomed young Jeffrey Epstein into a job teaching math New York’s Dalton prep school in 1974 on the basis of fake college credentials (Stanford). Epstein was soon transformed into a Wall Street go-getter and most probably an agent for Mossad, Israeli intel. Epstein’s rise in high finance and international spookery led him to crypto-British media mogul and Mossad agent Robert Maxwell and Maxwell’s sex-crazed daughter Ghislaine. . . and the Epstein underage sex operation proceeded from there.

Coincidentally, Donald Barr’s son, Bill Barr’s rise in Blobville neatly parallel’s Epstein’s rise. Barr signed on with the CIA in 1973, worked as an “analyst,” quit to go to law school in 1977, landed in the Reagan White House, than the Bush One White House where he performed clean-up operations on the lingering Iran-Contra mess, eventually becoming US Attorney General in 1991. Between 1994 and 2019, he racked up a personal fortune in blob-centric law, becoming Attorney General a second time in 2019, under Mr. Trump, whom he sedulously stabbed in the back, butt, and liver during his tenure.

Now, it is well-known that Donald Trump consorted with Jeffrey Epstein at various points in his life. Mr. Trump, in his role as New York real estate mogul, was but another celebrity butterfly in Epstein’s vast collection. He admits flying on the notorious Epstein airplane, though, he has said only to catch a ride somewhere. Mr. Trump later clashed with Epstein, as far, even, as blackballing him from the Mar-a-Lago club. (Epstein’s role as a high-toned pimp was becoming known in the early 2000s, though his legal culpability was neatly minimized by Barack Obama’s DOJ.)

In light of all this, it appears that Mr. Trump has no reservations these days about disclosing whatever lurks in the blob files about these skeezy matters. Of course, it is a little hard to believe that blob agents did not dispose of the evidence well in advance of January 20. Other whistleblowers say that FBI agents have been “working night and day” to destroy files on “stand-alone” FBI servers in the days preceding Kash Patel’s arrival on the premises.

As I wind up today’s post at 8:02 in the morning, something new should have landed on Pam Bondi’s desk in place of that six-hundred-pound hairball. Not a whisper of news yet. No perp-walks out of SDNY or the New York FBI office. And, of course, The New York Times, barely a mention on yesterday’s Epstein doings. There’s a long work-day ahead. Stand by.

Watch: The View's Joy Behar Lies, Admits To Lying, Gets Annoyed She Got Caught Lying...

Authored by Steve Watson via Modernity.news,

Joy Behar, one of the wicked witches on The View was forced to issue an apology and admit she completely made up an accusation against Elon Musk, but then got pissed off that she was told she can’t just make stuff up.

Behar wildly claimed that Musk supported apartheid when he lived in South Africa as a child, and that he still currently has that “mentality.”

“[Musk] kisses [President Donald Trump’s] butt and strokes his tiny ego, a big ego, whatever it is. And he can take a nap while the guy [who] was not born in this country, who was born under apartheid in South Africa, so he has that mentality going on. He was pro-apartheid as I understand it,” Behar said.

Moments later she walked back the comments, noting that she had just simply assumed that Musk supported apartheid and didn’t have any evidence to back up the claim.

“I don’t really know for sure if he was,” Behar sneered, adding “He grew up at that time when apartheid was in full blown before the great Nelson Mandala fixed that. [Musk] was around at that time, but maybe he was, maybe he wasn’t. He might have been a young guy, too. So, don’t be suing me, okay, Elon?”

Behar then expressed annoyance that someone had got in her ear telling her she can’t just spout baseless accusations.

“They’re allowed to say any lie they want but we have to be really strict, that’s why this show’s important,” she bizarrely ranted.

Watch:

After ‘conservative’ co-host Alyssa Farah informed Behar that Musk is actually a naturalized citizen, she scoffed, “Oh really? Did he come over the border legally…He flew in!”

“I think this just perfectly wonderful for Trump,” she further blathered, adding “He can take a nap and let this foreigner, foreign agent, enemy of the United States, do his job.”

It’s about time someone did sue these clowns, given that they do this every day.

Trans-Terror: Police Arrest 'Woman' For Allegedly Trying To Torch Tesla Dealership

Authored by Ken Silva via Headline USA,

Police in Loveland, Colorado have arrested a suspect who allegedly vandalized a local Tesla dealership several times, and who left incendiary devices at the scene.

Justin Thomas Nelson, 42, a transgender person who goes by the first name Lucy, was arrested Monday night without incident.

The arrest stems from a Lovement Police investigation into attempted arson that took place at a Tesla shop shortly after midnight on Feb. 7. In addition, police said that various vehicles and the Tesla building were vandalized with graffiti messages, some of which were offensive and hateful in nature.

Police had already received similar reports on Jan. 29 and Feb. 2, but those incidents were less serious than the Feb. 7 attempted arson, they said.

“On Monday evening, Nelson again returned to Loveland Tesla while in possession of additional incendiary devices, along with materials attributed to vandalism,” Loveland Police said in a press release.

“Detectives apprehended Nelson prior to further damage occurring.”

Nelson was booked into the Larimer County Jail on the following charges: Explosives or Incendiary Devices Use During Felony, a Class 2 felony; Criminal Mischief $2,000 < $5,000 Business, a Class 6 felony; and Criminal Attempt to Commit Class 3 Felony, a Class 4 felony.

A judge issued a $100,000 cash surety bond for the alleged trans terrorist.

Police said they worked with the ATF on the case.

Mainstream media, including Fox News, was widely panned for reporting the suspect’s gender as female.

'Mini-Stagflation' Will End With A Financial Shock

Submitted by Dhaval Joshi via BCAResearch.com,

President Trump is hosting Prime Minister Starmer in the White House today. Yet the most pressing issue that they will likely not discuss is that both the US and the UK are staring down the barrel of what I have called a ‘mini-stagflation’ – a period of inflation stuck well above 2 percent combined with slowing growth.

Meanwhile, in the euro area and Japan, the pre-pandemic era of ‘too low’ inflation is well and truly over as structural inflation expectations have finally lifted to 2 percent.

This setup of above-par inflation expectations in the US and UK combined with at-par inflation expectations in the euro area and Japan has major implications for relative central bank policy. Worryingly though, it also sows the seeds for the next financial shock.

Inflation Shocks Stay In The Collective Memory For A Long Time

The oft-quoted disclaimer on investment products is that past performance is a poor guide to future returns. Yet when it comes to inflation expectations, past performance is an excellent guide to future returns.

Long-term inflation expectations are nothing more than a simple weighted average of long-term historic inflation and extremely recent inflation, with the long-term historic component dominating. Specifically:

10-year expected inflation = 0.85 * 10-year inflation + 0.15 * 3-month inflation

As the charts in this report illustrate, this simple expression near perfectly explains long-term inflation expectations in the US, UK, euro area, and even in Japan!

Technical note: In the UK, as pension funds are captive buyers of inflation protected bonds, this artificially depresses UK inflation protected bond yields, and thereby artificially raises market-based UK inflation expectations by 0.5 percent versus the ‘true’ expectations. The analysis in this report adjusts for this distortion.

This basic maths for inflation expectations has a crucial takeaway. An inflation shock – such as happened post-pandemic – which lifts the long-term historic inflation rate will leave long-term inflation expectations structurally elevated.

Or, put in simple English:

Inflation (and deflation) shocks stay in the collective memory for a long time.

This leads to another crucial takeaway. For the euro area and Japan, which were experiencing chronically ‘too low’ inflation (if that isn’t an oxymoron!), the post-pandemic inflation shock has been ‘benign’ – by finally lifting structural inflation expectations to the required level of 2 percent.

However, for the US and the UK, which were experiencing broadly ‘at target’ inflation expectations, the post-pandemic inflation shock has been ‘malign’ – by elevating those structural inflation expectations to well above 2 percent.

In the case of the US and the UK, the post-pandemic inflationary shock must be neutralised by a subsequent deflationary shock to restore structural inflation expectations back to 2 percent. But as the Fed and the BoE are unlikely to engineer such a deflationary shock, it must ultimately come from another source. More about that in a moment.

Until a deflationary shock arrives though:

The US and UK will be stuck with elevated structural inflation expectations.

Tariffs will only make matters worse. Past performance is an excellent guide to inflation expectations, provided the economy has not experienced a paradigm-shift that makes history a poor guide to the future.

In the UK, Brexit was such a paradigm-shift. Hence, after the 2016 vote to leave the EU, UK inflation expectations briefly broke upwards from the historical experience. In the US, a less pronounced break upwards happened after Trump’s first election victory in 2016, reflecting that a Trump presidency can be regarded as a paradigm-shift. To the extent that the same is true for Trump’s second presidency, the risk is that it will lift US structural inflation expectations from an already elevated level.

The Next Financial Shock Could Come From Japan

The setup of above-par inflation expectations in the US and UK combined with at-par inflation expectations in the euro area and Japan has major implications for relative central bank policy.

Absent a new deflationary shock, the Fed and the BoE have very limited scope to cut interest rates. The ECB, by contrast, has more scope to unwind its post-pandemic tightening.

Most significant though is the development in Japan. With inflation expectations back at 2 percent, a zero-interest rate policy is no longer fit for purpose. The BoJ must rapidly normalise interest rates to its estimate of neutral at 1-2.5 percent.[1]

Importantly, the mini-stagflation in the US will facilitate such a normalisation, because as BoJ Governor Kazuo Ueda explains, the BoJ must carefully consider “developments in overseas economies, especially the US economy, and their impact on financial and foreign exchange markets”. In plain English, this means that a Fed on hold because of a mini-stagflation opens the door for the BoJ to normalise interest rates.

Therein lies a potential source of the next financial shock. As I have consistently highlighted – for example, in More On The Yen Carry Trade… And Unsustainable Extremes | BCA Research – Japan’s deeply negative real rates have inflated the AI bubble. Therefore, the normalisation of Japanese interest rates is a prime candidate to burst it.

In fact, the yen carry trade is reflexive. It needs a funding currency with stably low or negative yields (the yen); and a destination investment with stably high returns (AI stocks). So, the bubble could burst: either if the stably low yield on the yen funding ends; or if the euphoria around AI stocks is shattered.

Observe that since early-2023 there has been a great (inverse) fit between bellwether stock Microsoft’s valuation and the Japanese 10-year real bond yield.

Looking at this chart:

The Japanese real bond yield turning positive would constitute a meaningful shock for the global stock market.

Some people have asked for a critical level for the dollar/yen exchange rate as it is easier to watch. Monitoring the yen’s appreciation is fine, provided it is understood that the overarching driver is Japan’s real bond yield rising, and the exchange rate is just the effect. That said, if dollar/yen fell below 145 it would almost certainly coincide with an air-pocket in the global stock market.

To sum up, the US (and the UK) is staring down the barrel of a mini-stagflation until a deflationary shock, potentially emanating from Japan, neutralises it. But the timing of this deflationary shock is uncertain.

The good news is that three investment conclusions hold true irrespective of how long it takes for a deflationary shock to end the US (and the UK) mini-stagflation:

  • Overweight the yen.

  • Underweight the euro.

  • Underweight US stocks in a global portfolio.

The Party Is Over

Authored by Jeffrey Tucker via The Brownstone Institute,

The Trump administration, pushed by the Department of Government Efficiency and deployed by the Office of Personnel Management, has sent another email to all federal employees with a normal request to present five tasks accomplished in the last week.

It’s an easy task. It takes 5 minutes. In the service industry, this is entirely normal, even routine. Taking inventory of the workforce is standard for any new management in the private sector.

Oddly, absolute mania broke out among the pundit class. Government unions are preparing lawsuits. The panic and frenzy is palpable. As it turns out, no new president has ever done anything like this before, no Democrat who believes in good government and no Republican who supposedly distrusts bureaucracy.

Something dramatic has hit Washington. It’s about more than Trump.

The party now in control of the US executive branch is a third party built out of the corpses of two existing parties. It goes by the name Republican but this is nearly a historical accident. The GOP was a vessel that was least protected against invasion and occupation. It has now been nearly taken over by outsiders who had little or no influence within the party a decade ago.

Nearly all the top people now in power – including Trump of course but also Musk, Gabbard, Kennedy, Lutnick, and so many more, to say nothing of the voters themselves – are refugees from the Democratic Party. Coalitions have dramatically changed. Voting blocs have migrated. And policy debates and priorities are nothing like they have been in any period since the end of the Great War.

The occupiers left a Democratic Party that was and is busy consuming itself with Rousseauian frenzies on issues about which most people do not care or are otherwise completely opposed. The legacy establishment of the Republican Party, however, never welcomed them in. They were hated and resisted at every step.

The Kennedy Migration

To understand the remarkable speed and trajectory of this creation of a third party within the structure of two, consider that it was not even two years ago when Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., was first contemplating running for president as a Democrat.

The conditions were unique. He had gained an enormous following for his courage during Covid, standing up against the lockdowns, speaking out against the censorship and rights violations, and then decrying the imposition of shots that achieved nothing for public health.

In 2023, President Biden was unpopular and not even credible as the chief executive, much less as a candidate for a second term. The thinking in the Kennedy camp at the time was that a run by Kennedy for the Democratic nomination would force an open primary and he could lead the party back to its roots, away from woke totalitarianism toward the political values of his father and uncle.

In theory, all of this seemed plausible. His first rallies were crowded events, and the money poured in. Volunteers were signing up to work for the campaign. The first ads that appeared were nostalgic of a lost time, an America before the shattering of civic culture that came with the assassination of his uncle in 1963. The framing and even music of his campaign reflected such themes.

If anyone could fix the Democrats, it was surely Kennedy with a lifetime of activism and experience in litigation against corporate capture of agencies, plus a recent campaign for human rights and free speech. The presumption here was that the Democrats had some base of support that still supported such values. And maybe that was right but his intentions ran headlong into the machinery of party leadership.

His intention was to challenge Trump for the presidency, and the basis of the challenge was rather obvious. It was, after all, under Trump’s watch that the lockdowns began and the legal apparatus that led to the dangerous shots was deployed. It was Trump who kicked off the economic crisis with wave after wave of stimulus payments plus monetary expansion. As an empirical matter, he had presided over the worst invasion of rights of any president in history.

That’s where matters stood only two years ago. When it became obvious that there would be no open primary, Kennedy was tempted by the lure of an independent run. The most immediate problem of gaining ballot access hit hard. The system, after all, is set up for two parties only and they want no competition unless such an effort works as a spoiler. That was not obvious with Kennedy – he drew equally from both sides – so everyone with power wanted him excluded.

The other problem traces to the undeniable logic of winner-take-all elections. Under Duverger’s law, such contests tend to default to two choices only. This logic applies not just to politics but to all systems of voting. If you offer guests at a party the chance to vote on dinner, but the majority will prevail over the minority, everyone will immediately shift from voting for what they like toward voting against the food they hate the most.

For some reason, this pattern of strategic voting is hardly mentioned in polite company but it is a reality in US politics. Voters select against the candidate they fear the most and for the person they believe can win to forestall the worst possible outcome. In the Kennedy case, then, it meant that no matter how much people loved him, they would end up supporting either Biden or Trump regardless.

It so happened that over the summer, this logic was pressing itself heavily on the Kennedy campaign even as Trump faced astonishing levels of deep-state lawfare plus an assassination attempt, which conjured up deep family trauma in Kennedy. This provoked some discussions between the two that resulted in a historic realignment in politics.

During these discussions, Trump was frank about what happened during the Covid period. He had been lied to by his bureaucracy, the experts who had been assigned to him to say that this virus was a bioweapon with possible cure in the form of a new vaccine. With great reluctance and only for a limited time did he approve what everyone, including family members and conservative pundits, was telling him to do.

As for Warp Speed, Trump had always considered it to be an aggressive push for a solution. International and domestic sources named Hydroxychloroquine as a workable therapeutic, and so he ordered it for mass distribution.

It was essentially inconceivable in those days that the deeper bureaucracy would not only remove it and other repurposed drugs from distribution but even generate fake studies warning against them, all in an effort to push the new pharmaceutical product. Trump was surely astonished to see these events unfold in a manner that he could not control.

In that connection, both Trump and RFK, Jr. agreed on the dangers to American health from a variety of sources, including that emanating from the overuse of pharmaceuticals. Trump learned from Kennedy’s expertise on this matter, and they experienced a meeting of minds. And not only on this but on the evils of captured agencies, censorship, and deep state manipulation of public culture in general.

They would never agree on issues of oil and gas, of course, but on that topic too Kennedy had been moved by the Covid years to reconsider the supposed science behind climate change, especially that which recommended more human suffering as a means of solving a supposed existential threat.

We may never know the fullness of what took place over those two days but the discussions changed history, bringing together two mighty forces in American culture that had long been separated by party label and tribal identity: bourgeois nationalism vs. the haut bourgeois crunchy liberalism of the Whole Foods set. As it turned out, they had a common enemy.

Now Kennedy is the new head of Health and Human Services under the Trump administration, which is now undertaking the largest attempt at routing the DC establishment since Andrew Jackson. His goal is to turn around the whole ship of state, industry, and science, away from fakery and industrial corruption emanating from a single focus on infectious disease toward a new focus on chronic disease with science-based and natural solutions. That is a herculean task.

The Musk Migration

Elon Musk is the third force within this leadership triumvirate of the new party. Before 2020, he was a politically conventional investor and entrepreneur. Mostly he associated with the default party of the elites, the Democrats. Then lockdowns came. He was the only major corporate leader in the US and probably anywhere in the industrialized world who publicly stood up in protest. He said he would sooner sleep on the floor of his factory than close it. He refused vaccine mandates in all his companies. He pulled Tesla out of California and moved it to Texas. He moved all his corporate registrations out of Delaware.

By 2023, he was a changed man, newly aware of the threat of Leviathan, and did a deep dive into anti-statist literature. He faced his own family battles over woke ideology, and this made his intellectual transformation complete. He entered the political season with a new consciousness. Whereas he once regarded the bureaucracy as annoyingly necessary, he increasingly viewed it as the source of unchecked tyranny.

At one level, the meetup of Trump and Musk – like the meetup of Trump and Kennedy – was completely implausible. Musk regarded his greatest achievement as a businessman as having made the most mighty contribution to clean energy yet, having broken up the automotive monopoly and mass-produced the first commercially viable electric car. Trump, on the other hand, had sworn to smash electric car subsidies and called for deregulation of oil and gas. To link up with Trump meant having to put at risk even the tax break for consumers of EVs.

But he was ready for that simply because, like Kennedy, he became convinced that Western civilization itself was at risk from a woke Leviathan that had shown its teeth in the most brutal way during the Covid years. His reason for purchasing Twitter for $44 billion was to bust up the censorship cartel that was constructed to enforce lockdowns and promote the vaccine. Once having taken over, he discovered the extent of government control, uprooted it, and unleashed free speech on the US.

Here again, Musk shared this concern with Kennedy and Trump. All three linked up on the crucial issues: the desperate need to curb and crush the power and reach of the administrative state. This is an issue that crosses left and right, Democrat and Republican, liberal and conservative, and all other traditional categories.

The Gabbard Migration

In this connection, there was also the national security angle in which decades of neoconservative “forever wars” had bred resentment and failure abroad, thus bringing over the articulate Tulsi Gabbard from the Democrats to Trump’s side, together with other influencers like Pete Hegseth who saw traditional military concerns having given way to woke ideology that Musk despised and Kennedy found to be deeply corrupting of traditional liberal concerns.

Their interests dovetailed with the revolt against globalism generally, which had taken the form of endless unwinnable wars, unchecked spigots of foreign aid, taxpayer pillaging in the form of subsidies to international syndicates of NGOs and agencies, plus the cruel deployment of immigration as a tool of electoral manipulation. It was the immigration point that triggered the populist push for the new nationalism that gathered in new refugees from the antiwar sectors of the left and right.

Donald Trump himself has undergone his own migration. An industrial mercantilist from his earliest public statements, he gradually absorbed a de facto anti-statism once his ill-fated first term was subverted from within and then he faced unprecedented lawfare and even assassination attempts to stop his second term. When he told the Libertarian Party that this lawfare made him a libertarian in spirit, he was being truthful. Once it became personal, the new head of state effectively turned against the state and all its works.

These are all circuitous paths but they reached the point of having huge influence over the public mind in the wake of the Covid years that discredited existing elites and prepared the way for a completely new way of going about government and public life. Given the meme culture of our time, this new party went by various names, first MAGA and then MAHA and then DOGE (in homage to the meme coin that started as a joke and then became real).

MAGA/MAHA/DOGE is not exactly the catchiest name for the new ruling party but it is far more accurate than Republican, much less Democrat. It is a new party formed out of the discredited shells of the two existing parties that lost public trust over decades of misrule culminating in an ill-fated attempt to master the exigencies of the microbial kingdom.

In a Kuhnian sense, the collapse of the orthodox paradigm (rule by administrative agencies informed by captured science) was complete by 2023, preparing the way for the pre-paradigmatic coalition of these fascinating characters, backed by popular movements that are mirrored in many lands, and generally sailing under the flag of populism. And here is the crucial fact: these leaders have their reach, influence, and power because the causes they represent have come of age with a population completely fed up with misrule by experts.

These are new and highly promising times, as the old undergoes a merciful dismantling and something entirely new takes its place. We find the roots of the ideology of the administrative state in the works of Woodrow Wilson, and it takes only a few minutes of reading his deluded fantasies of how science and compulsion would forge a better world to see that it was only a matter of time before the whole experiment was in tatters.

It took more than a century but that day is finally here. The paradigm has shifted. For all the messiness and frenzy – including the chaos, confusion, and betrayals – our times at least present opportunity to reassert a foundational principle of the Enlightenment; namely that the people themselves should have some fluid and influential role in shaping the workings of the regime under which they are forced to live.

Not Happening (Anytime Soon): Federal Government Can't Comply With Judge's Order To Unfreeze Funds

Authored by Zachary Stieber via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

Federal officials told a U.S. judge on Feb. 25 that they could not comply with his order requiring the release of frozen foreign aid within two days.

U.S. District Judge Amir H. Ali’s order, which gave a deadline of Feb. 26 at 11:59 p.m. ET, would mean paying at least $1.5 billion across some 2,000 outstanding and newly created requests for payment to the U.S. Agency for International Development, the official serving as deputy administrator for the agency said in a court filing.

It would also require paying at least $400 million to resolve outstanding payment requests to the State Department, Pete Marocco, the official, said.

These payments cannot be accomplished in the time allotted by the Court and would instead take multiple weeks,” he wrote.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ali, in a hearing with government lawyers and attorneys representing the groups that sued over the freeze, was told that the groups had not yet been paid despite his multiple previous orders, including one on Feb. 13, mandating that the Trump administration unfreeze the foreign assistance.

“I’m not sure why I can’t get a straight answer from you on this: Are you aware of an unfreezing of the disbursement of funds for those contracts and agreements that were frozen before Feb. 13,” the Washington-based judge asked Indraneel Sur, the lawyer for the government, during the hearing. “Are you aware of steps taken to actually release those funds?

I’m not in a position to answer that,” Sur said.

It’s the second time a judge has found the Trump administration did not follow a court order. U.S. District Court Judge John McConnell in Rhode Island also found this month that the administration had not fully unfrozen federal grants and loans within the United States after he blocked sweeping plans for a pause on trillions of dollars in government spending.

In the Washington case, plaintiffs recently filed an emergency motion to enforce the judge’s temporary restraining order, saying they’re still owed millions of dollars and that their contracts terminated under Trump’s foreign assistance pause remain terminated.

Ali granted the emergency motion during Tuesday’s hearing and ordered the government to comply by Thursday.

Marocco’s declaration came with a motion from the government asking the judge to stay his order as a federal appeals court considers overturning it.

“Defendants are likely to succeed on appeal from the Court’s order for several reasons,” government lawyers said in the filing. “To start, it is not possible for Defendants to comply,” they said, pointing to Marocco’s declaration.

The government has appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The Core And Curse Of DOGE

Via SchiffGold.com,

Every election Americans have been desensitized to claims of cutting spending and somehow getting everything they want at the same time.

We expect that candidates will say we can have it all.

We hypothetically know that cutting spending and government waste are good things, but they always take second priority to whatever urgent situation or desires we face

The Department of Government Efficiency takes a radically new approach to this problem of motivation and has created a new means for waste to be cut. It is important to not disregard the fact that there have been many government oversight organizations with the sole purpose of focusing on fraud and waste. DOGE has begun their own efforts of documenting waste and directly cutting excess spending, but they do not seek to undercut previous attempts. DOGE has an ability to act that has not been matched by other waste-cutting agencies.

While the goal of cutting spending is undoubtedly good and we are in a situation of spending crisis, DOGE’s unorthodox methods may set a dangerous precedent for future administrations. It serves as an all purpose task force for the president to enforce his will and identify weaknesses in government spending. While past presidents have been frustrated about being stonewalled by various bureaucrats, DOGE creates an embedded network of control that makes the president’s proclamations much more effectual. While even the left appreciates cutting waste in theory, it is easy to see how such a vital approach to government could be harmful in the future. In the past, layers of inefficiency protected us from radical policies and made systemic change slow. There is no guarantee that a DOGE-type force will only be applied to cutting waste. Even DOGE’s current actions may suggest motives that are less than wholesome. Musk made sure to first attack USAID, which had recently scrutinized him for overcharging the government for Starlink he claimed he would donate. With such an atypical and unsteady start, in the future it could be used to enforce radical social policies or even set the undergirding for a military takeover. DOGE’s effectiveness is the center of its danger.

While there are dangers to be wary of, DOGE could provide a much needed reset for government waste and set the standard for fulfilling campaign promises. It often feels like once elected, presidents have their hands tied and are unable to be judged on the merits of their actions because what happens cannot truly be said to be “them.” This lack of responsibility means that the public is unsatisfied and few things actually happen in a powerful enough way that the citizen can see or feel them. The cutting of DOGE will most likely undo bureaucracies that took decades to establish, creating a new normal that will benefit even the most democratic of presidents. If this process was going through Congress, it would be impossible to make real change in four years. Our debt and interest payments are unsustainable and require this sort of radical action if our country is to continue sustaining itself rather than sinking deeper into destruction through indulgence.

Critics and supporters of DOGE are quick to point out its unfettered nature.

The critics are hesitant of its freedom from Congress and point out that it seems dangerously near an oligarchy. Supporters see it’s unfettered nature as necessary to compete with the droves of unelected officials and agencies relatively free from Congress.

Countless agencies existing outside of congressional concern and control make it nearly impossible for Congress to understand what they are doing, or even which pathways they must use to rein them in.

DOGE is a good solution to the fact that Congress will never have the bandwidth to understand the minutiae of waste and fraud occurring in the federal government.

Additionally, much waste and lack of oversight has simple and truly bipartisan solutions. For example, the treasury not having to state what their specific payments were for should be questioned by anyone. This small administrative detail would have never been brought up in congress, but it will ultimately return so much accountability to the American people. If agencies have been able to deny the public the ability to see what’s going on, the public cannot vote accurately.

The freedom of DOGE is necessary to restore faith in the government and make a new standard of transparency.

Even if they overstep and do things that Congress should be responsible for, let this article’s point stand: we need more transparency and active cost cutting urgently or this country will pay for its nonchalant attitude towards responsibility.

The American Rōnin: How Displaced "Disinformation Experts" Are Seeking New Opportunities In Europe And Academia

Authored by Jonathan Turley,

President Trump’s election has brought about mass layoffs among federal employees and contractors, including some who have sued and others who have protested.

But one group — that of America’s would-be censors — is taking its cause worldwide.

During the Biden administration, a massive industry took root, sweeping up billions in taxpayer funds to research, target and combat those accused of misinformation, disinformation and “malinformation.”

Although the exact number is uncertain, many trained censors are now facing unemployment.

These self-described “disinformation experts” have become the modern equivalent of rōnin, the Japanese samurai who found themselves without a master and wandered the land looking for a new use of their skill set. They are finding precisely that calling in academia, not-for-profit groups and, most importantly, Europe.

A speech-regulation industry that was booming under Biden has gone bust under Trump. Over the last four years, massive amounts of money were poured into universities, non-governmental organizations and other groups in an unprecedented alliance of government, academia and corporations.

The media lionized many in the industry as “saving democracy” by controlling, targeting and suppressing others’ political speech. Not only did federal agencies fund these efforts, but they also coordinated censorship of groups and individuals with opposing views, even objecting to jokes on the internet.

Universities cashed in on this largesse as well. It was popular with most liberal administrators and lucrative for academics.

The sudden shutoff of the federal spigot comes as a blow, but it does not mean the speech warriors will simply convert their censor-shields into plowshares. Many will follow in the footsteps of Nina Jankowicz, briefly the head of a now-defunct disinformation governance board. After the outcry over the board, Jankowicz quickly found her skills were in demand in Europe.

Free speech has been in free-fall in Europe for decades. Germany has long enforced a robust system of speech criminalization that began with Nazi symbolism but steadily expanded to include inciteful speech, insults and merely “disinformative” statements. The United Kingdom and France showed the same insatiable appetite for the inexorable expansion of censorship and prosecutions.

The European Union has also been ground zero for the anti-free speech movement’s aggressive use of the Digital Services Act, which bars speech that is viewed as “disinformation” or “incitement.”

When it passed over the objections of free speech advocates, European Commission Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager was perfectly ecstatic, declaring it is “not a slogan anymore, that what is illegal offline should also be seen and dealt with as illegal online. Now, it is a real thing. Democracy’s back.”

That is why Vice President J.D. Vance’s recent speech in Munich was so historic. For the free speech community, Vance went into the belly of the beast and denounced the anti-free-speech movement in the heart of Europe.

The response to the Vance speech has been nothing short of panic in the anti-free-speech community. Many are assembling in conferences in Europe, including the upcoming World Forum in Berlin. Bill and Hillary Clinton will be in attendance. (I will also be speaking at the conference.)

It was Hillary Clinton who, after Elon Musk purchased Twitter with the pledge to dismantle the censorship system, called upon the EU to force him and others to censor her fellow U.S. citizens. She embraced the infamous Digital Services Act, which seeks to impose a global system of speech control. She has also suggested the arrest of those spreading disinformation.

Immediately after the speech, familiar European and American voices denounced Vance and doubled down on the need for Europe to hold the line against dangerous free speech.

For the free speech community, there could not be a better place for this debate to unfold. Germany has demonstrated the false claims of the anti-free-speech community over the years. Indeed, you might call their arguments “disinformation.”

Vance and others who have challenged the European censorship systems have been attacked as Nazi enablers or sympathizers. Many of those who have fostered this attack are part of the regulator ronin. Others simply repeated the narrative without thought or support.

Take CBS anchor Margaret Brennan, who confronted Secretary of State Marco Rubio over the outrageous fact that Vance was supporting free speech while “standing in a country where free speech was weaponized to conduct a genocide.” The claim is stupefyingly uninformed. The first thing that the Nazis did in coming to power was to crack down and criminalize free speech — just as many on the left have done in European countries.

A few have insisted that the Nazis were brought to power by the lack of government controls over what views could be expressed. But this is not true either. The crushing irony is that Article 118 of the Weimar Constitution guaranteed free speech only “within the limits of the general laws.” It did not protect statements deemed by the government as factually untrue, and speech was actively regulated.

Adolf Hitler, for example, was barred from speaking publicly. The Nazis did not use free speech because they did not have it. They did, however, use the denial of free speech to claim that the government was afraid to have certain views aired in public.

Germany has replicated the old system that failed to stop (and perhaps even helped) the Nazis, doubling down on speech controls and criminalization. As I discuss in my book, there has never been a successful censorship system in the history of the world — not one. Germany is again a chilling example of the true record of such systems.

Past polling of German citizens found that only 18 percent felt free to express their opinions in public. Only 17 percent felt free to express themselves on the internet. So the neo-Nazi movement is flourishing, even as average German citizens feel chilled in their own speech.

Despite this history, the regulatory ronin are hard at work to scare the public back into empowering and especially into funding their efforts.

The outgoing chairman of the Munich Security Conference spoke through tears as he expressed his “fear” that Vance’s call for free speech could take hold in Europe. He tellingly added, “It is clear that our rules-based international order is under pressure. It is my strong belief … that this multipolar world needs to be based on a single set of norms and principles.”

This “international order” has striven to impose a single set of norms on speech, particularly through vehicles like the Digital Services Act. The effort stands at odds with the very essence of the American constitutional system and values.

The only thing both sides agree on is that this is an existential fight. For those in the free speech community, it will determine the future of what Justice Louis Brandeis called “the indispensable right.” For the other side, it is the future of a European model of free speech, limiting the right to deter those with extreme or inciteful views.

The recent successes in the U.S. at X and more recently at Meta are real. However, the displaced speech regulators are not just going to retool and learn to code or train to work in the hospitality industry.

As Vance’s speech showed, we are more isolated than ever. Even Americans like Clinton have joined with the Europeans to fight for censorship. It is time to take a side and fight for freedom of speech.

NYC Mayor "Begins" Shuttering Roosevelt Hotel Migrant Intake Center

A luxury hotel in Manhattan, which the globalist Biden-Harris regime had transformed into an illegal alien and migrant intake center under a controversial tax-payer-funded deal with its Pakistani owner, will soon close, according to New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The decision comes as Adams is attempting to restore law and order and national security in a metro area where Democrats used tax-payer-funded NGOs to dump migrants and drain the city's resources.

For two years, the Roosevelt Hotel served as a migrant intake center, processing more than 173,000 migrants in NYC. According to city data, it opened in 2023 and was funded by taxpayers. Mayor Adams noted that at the peak of the migrant crisis, the city received 4,000 migrants weekly.

CBS New York quoted Adams in a statement saying, "Now, thanks to the sound policy decisions of our team, we are able to announce the closure of this site and help even more asylum seekers take the next steps in their journeys as they envision an even brighter future, while simultaneously saving taxpayers millions of dollars."

Adam is already preparing to close 53 migrant shelters by June. He said the number of migrants entering the city has dropped in recent weeks under President Trump's new border policies.

Earlier this month, Elon Musk's DOGE found that FEMA recently sent tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds to luxury hotels in NYC housing migrants.

Musk said: "Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President's executive order," adding, "That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high-end hotels for illegals!"

Shortly after the discovery, FEMA's chief financial officer, two program analysts, and a grant specialist were fired over the payments, and the taxpayer funds were clawed back.

A previous report revealed that the government of Pakistan owns the Roosevelt Hotel. This raises concerns, as the Biden-Harris regime effectively paid a foreign government to support the migrant invasion.

And it gets worse...

"FEMA was funding the Roosevelt Hotel that serves as a Tren de Aragua base of operations and was used to house Laken Riley's killer. There will not be a single penny spent that goes against the interest and safety of the American people," a Homeland Security spokesperson told CBS NYC.

No Way Out...

Authored by James Howard Kunstler,

“The job of the president, goes the message from all the insiders, is to PRETEND to be in charge but not actually do anything meaningful."

- Jeffrey Tucker

CBS’s 60-Minutes show was at it again Sunday night in the most prime primetime weekend news slot on the old broadcast spectrum — Sunday at 7:00, the power-hour of national mind-fuckery — with blob PR-agent Scott Pelley singing the blues over the systematic disassembly of the rogue bureaucracy. Trouble is, fewer and fewer minds are susceptible to the argument that the blob exists to “save our democracy.”

You’re supposed to go boo-hoo because the Department of Justice is under new management. Now get this: since 2015 the Department of Justice and its step-child, the FBI, have devoted their vast and savage powers to manifold acts of sedition, treason, malicious political prosecution, obstruction of justice, suborning perjuries, and countless other abuses of law in an ever-widening gyre of ass-covering operations as year-by-year their crimes multiplied.

RussiaGate was initially a cover-up op for the Clintons’ many acts of mischief and moneygrubbing when Hillary ran for President, just as the Mueller Special Counsel Investigation was a cover-up for the crimes committed by the DOJ and FBI after Hillary lost to Mr. Trump, just as Impeachment #1 was a cover-up for the Ukraine money laundry and its role in RussiaGate, and Impeachment #2 was a coverup for the 2020 election ballot hijinks that got rid of Mr. Trump, and just as the Mar-a-Lago raid was a cover-up to retrieve evidence of all-the-above that Mr. Trump had archived, and just as the flurry of Trump prosecutions in 2024 was the final (and amazingly inept) effort to put the Golden Golem of Greatness out-of-business forever.

But somehow, perhaps an act of Providence, he prevailed over all that adversity, like some paladin out of the ancient myths, and is suddenly back in charge — to the abject horror of all those lawyers and spooks behind the aforesaid ops, now nervously awaiting subpoenas in their Beltway McMansions. You will learn shortly that there is a difference between “justice” based on fraud and fakery and justice served by way of fact-patterns and evidence.

And so late Sunday evening after the 60-Minutes pity party, came the pretty astounding news that former Secret Service agent and now podcaster Dan Bongino is appointed Deputy Director of the FBI.

Astounding because Mr. Bongino has documented the worst blob crimes of recent years in a series of books that comprehensively presents the entire tapestry of lawlessness in microscopic detail. He knows the whole sordid, epic story, all the names, and all the money trails in every obscure corner of the worst aggregate matrix of scandals in US history.

Believe me when I tell you, this is like a death sentence for the blob.

For instance, Mr. Bongino is acutely aware of what went down on J-6, 2021, when a supposed pipe-bomb was “found” at the DNC headquarters, the part it was supposed to play in the larger J-6 op to rid Washington of Mr. Trump, and the lying confabulations of former FBI Director Christopher Wray afterward. Now he is in a position to compel current and former FBI officials to answer questions about that, and much more, from the Crossfire Hurricane scam to the shenanigans in Judge Juan Merchan’s court last summer.

Those investigations will require a whole dedicated division of new FBI agents while Kash Patel attends to the latest grifts uncovered by the DOGE, the threats against public order and safety posed by countless military-aged illegal aliens ushered into the country by “Joe Biden” and Alejandro Mayorkas, the turpitudes of former AG Merrick Garland, and the crimes committed by officials in the CDC, FDA, and other public health agencies around Covid-19, and lingering monstrosities such as the Jeffrey Epstein capers, the huge fortunes mysteriously amassed by US senators and congressmen, the 1960s assassinations of the Kennedys and MLK, the censorship operations conducted by the combined FBI / CIA, State Department, and dark offices of the Pentagon, the theft of US largess given over to Ukraine, and the infiltration of American institutions by China.

The Trump admin knows that it will have to strike hard and fast in all these matters and more. Cases will have to be prepared briskly and removed to federal courts outside the blob-controlled DC district. A great many political figures will have to be taken out of circulation. It will be helpful to finally understand the bizarre capture of the old legacy news media so, for instance, it becomes clear why an outfit such as CBS’s 60-Minutes ended up on the dark side, committed to burying the truth and distorting reality at every opportunity.

The Democratic Party was the political enabling partner in all this sedition and treason and it is hard to see how it comes out of this alive.

Expect to see a lemming stampede of resignations out of Congress and the Senate. And some of them, like Sen. Adam Schiff, and Rep. Eric Swalwell could end up in prison. You saw the fear in their public antics the past two weeks as the cabinet confirmations mounted. They know what’s coming. They are desperate, but the power they once wielded is now in other hands. There’s no way out.

On a bright note, it was heartwarming to see that Joy Reid got “axed” from her primetime perch at MSNBC over the weekend.

(Nobody axed me, but I approve!) She’ll be doing a must-watch farewell show this coming week. Don’t miss it!
